Institution: University Hospital Magdeburg & DZNE
Location: Magdeburg, Germany
Research Group: Modelling and Neuroprognosis Group (IKND)
Supervisors: Dr. Ziegler and Prof. Düzel
Duration: At least 3 years
Overview:
The Modelling and Neuroprognosis Group (IKND) at the University Hospital Magdeburg, led by Dr. Ziegler and Prof. Düzel, is inviting applications for a PhD position. The successful candidate will be part of the RTG2413 SynAGE research training group, focusing on advanced multivariate modelling techniques and artificial intelligence to analyze, characterize, and predict individual differences in structural (morphometric and vascular) and functional neuroimaging data related to aging and Alzheimer’s disease.
Project Description:
The primary goal of this PhD project is to explore and characterize the dynamics of brain aging, brain reserve, and maintenance using large-scale longitudinal neuroimaging data. The research will involve:
• Applying advanced multivariate modelling techniques to neuroimaging data.
• Utilizing AI methodologies to enhance the analysis and prediction of individual differences.
• Investigating morphometric and vascular changes in the brain.
• Analyzing functional neuroimaging data to understand cognitive decline and resilience in aging and Alzheimer’s disease.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct high-quality research in the field of neuroimaging and AI.
• Develop and implement advanced multivariate models for neuroimaging data analysis.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers.
• Present research findings at national and international conferences.
• Publish results in high-impact scientific journals.
Requirements:
• A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Neuroscience, Psychology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline.
• Strong background in neuroimaging techniques (e.g., MRI) and data analysis.
• Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB).
• Some experience with machine learning and AI methodologies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Benefits:
• Opportunity to work in a leading research institution with access to state-of-the-art facilities.
• Collaborative environment with experts in neuroimaging, AI, and aging research.
• Competitive salary and funding for conference travel.
• Comprehensive training and career development support.
